Soon after making New Westminster our home in 1986, my wife and I knew that the Royal City was a great place to raise our children.
The city however lacked a vision for it’s future. There was a prevalent lethargy which trapped the city in it’s past. A past which though rich was fading with each passing year. Urban renewal and development was largely bypassing the city and settling into nearby regions.
After Mayor Wright’s election as leader of the city nine years ago changes began to be detected in the air. Slowly, the city stirred to embrace it’s future as well as its past. In time major developments took, and are taking place. We now have a city boldly marching into a vibrant future, attracting young professionals and families proud to call New Westminster their home and eager to contribute to the city’s future.
Many of course are responsible for this change, however none more than Mayor Wright who had a vision of what could be, and steadfastly proceeded towards that vision. There is still much yet to be done and we are proud to live in a city on the move to a brighter tomorrow.
