Don't Let Others Shape Your City's Future

The November 6th editorial in the NewsLeader was inspiring for many. It said in part:

City governments may be small in stature, but they’re big on services, and responsible for everything from picking up our garbage and recycling, to fixing roads and making and maintaining water and sewer lines.

City governments keep police on our streets and firefighters at the ready. They build and manage parks and recreation facilities, keeping grass cut and pools cleaned and filled. They trim the trees on our streets and boulevards and build trails for our bikes.

They run libraries so everyone has free access to information and the beauty of books. They keep arts facilities humming with pottery classes and music recitals, and alive with the myriad of visual arts created by local artists.

They keep us in touch with our heritage through our museums and archives. They keep traffic running on the streets, and they develop long-term plans for the city.

So before you go to the polls, make sure you know something about the candidates you choose. After all, it’s not just politics at stake - it’s everyday life.

Update...a disappointing 23% of eligible voters turned out at the polls. Come on New Westminster, we can do better than this!
